Access : From Saint Girons follow the D618 then the D4 up the Lez valley. You'll pass through Castillon and Bordes-sur-Lez. 2 km further on turn left onto the road to Ayer in the Ribérot valley. Follow this road to the car park at the Pla de la Lau.

Itinerary : Alt. 930 m. From the car park , follow the path on the left bank of the Ribérot (red and white blaze). At the junction of the Pic de Barlonguère and Mont Valier trails, turn left to cross the 2 footbridges and carry on upwards along the right bank of the stream.

Alt. 1150 m : After passing the shelter "la Tute de l'ours" (spring) cross a footbridge and continue along the left bank of the stream.

Alt. 1350 m : Nérech waterfall : cross another footbridge onto the right bank and follow the trail that goes up alongside the waterfall.

Alt. 1550 m : Lauze waterfall in sight, the path rises and leaves the stream for good.

Alt. 1859 m : Caoussis shelter. Take the bifurcation in the direction of the refuge des Estagnous on the left (the path to the right leads to the étang Rond).

Alt. 2246 m : refuge des Estagnous (about 4 hours walk). To continue to the Mont Valier take the trail towards the southeast.

Alt. 2653 m : Col de Faustin : turn left to the north and climb the southern flank of the Mont Valier

Alt. 2838 m : Mont Valier: marble cross at the summit (about a 2 hour walk from the refuge). Erected in 1987 at the behest of Simone Henry and the Société des amis de Saint-Lizier to replace an older one (1672) recently destroyed.

Warning : at the beginning of the season, when there are still some névés (stretches of icy snow) between the refuge and the Col de Faustin, you should bring an ice axe and crampons as the slope is steep.
