Yves and Nicole welcome you to their home facing the famous Cathar castle at Montségur.
A quiet, restful spot at 1000 m altitude on 10 hectars of land, Serre de Marou enjoys an exceptional panoramic view of the chateau and the Massif de la Frau. You'll be able to relax on the pleasant covered terrace and savour the peace emanating from the landscape unfurling before you.
Nearby are numerous walking trails. The IGN maps of Ariège are available for your use as well as topoguides (the Cathar trail passes below our property). The Montbel lake is 20 kms away, the ski station Monts-d'Olmes 15 kms and the medieval town of Mirepoix 30 kms. Also nearby are the prehistoric caves around Tarascon and Andorra is a 90 minute drive. And of course you can visit the museum and château at Montségur, a 30 minute walk from the house.
The house has 2 guest bedrooms with a separate entrance off the terrace.
Each bedroom contains a double bed and en suite bathroom with shower, washbasin and wc.
In the morning you can take breakfast on the large covered terrace, savouring Nicole's homemade jams and the tranquility of the landscape laid out before you.
If you wish, you can share a family-style meal with your hosts around the big wooden farm table. Nicole offers traditional, regional cuisine prepared with local produce as well as seasonal vegetables from her own garden. (Montségur cassoulet, cabbage and roussole stew, daube, lamb, chicken with wild mushrooms, soup with fresh herbs.) Yves will share with you his passion for Cathar history, romanesque chapels and practical geobiology in the surrounding natural sites.
