The canton of Massat in the Ariege Pyrenees is a mountain land unto itself, its villages, hamlets and stone barns dotting the forested hillsides and lush valleys, with the high peaks standing sentinel. Above the Arac River, some of the most beautiful cols in the region offer magnificent panoramas of the Pyreneen chain. Thanks to them nature here has remained unspoiled, and they link our valley to many others in Ariège.

Our mountains are laced with foot paths created over the centuries by people and their animals, testament to a time when Massat was one of the largest towns in Ariège. Now we cheerfully share our land with visitors seeking green holidays--to walk or ride horseback in the mountains, fish in the rivers and lakes, or cycle in the wake of the Tour de France.
