The high peaks of Ariège are wild and rugged but at the same time easily accessible in a day. Spring flowers - gentle walking in Ariege

The Pyrenees is sometimes called the ‘flower garden of Europe’ and this week has been designed to make the most of it. From our hotel in Ax we can reach an enormous variety of ecosystems. To help us identify some of the species we are joined on one day of this trip by Graham Hart a local vet and naturalist.

Peaks and ridges around Besines and Rhule (refuges)

A hut to hut trip with a difference – we spend two night in each refuge allowing us to reach the high peaks with relative ease, without the burden of a heavy backpack. We spend 2 days on the GR10, 2 on the HRP and 2 great days on the peaks surrounding the refuges. This week is aimed ‘weekend trekkers’.

Classic Road climbs of the Tour de France

The Tour de France comes to Ariège every year and we love it. We ride 2 or 3 stages of the Tour and get to watch a finish and start from the roadside. Throw in roadside satellite TV and a barbeque and this has to be the perfect TDF experience.
