Le Sorbier is a restored 160 year-old farm building, surrounded by an attractive garden situated in a small hamlet close to the village of Biert. The south-facing property stands above the floor of the valley, enjoying open views towards Massat and the mountains beyond. The gite, occupies the upper level of the house but has a separate entrance, a private garden and parking area. The village of Biert with an auberge and small shop is just a few minutes' walk away and the small town of Massat (2km) has several shops, a pharmacy, doctor and restaurants plus a small market each Thursday.

The gîte is a spacious, comfortable apartment suitable for couples or possibly a couple and small infant (a cot is available). It is double-glazed and centrally-heated, offering cool accommodation in summer and snug comfort in winter. The apartment has a good-sized, open-plan living area with vaulted ceiling, wooden beams and a large wood-burning stove. There is comfortable seating, a TV/DVD player and a well-stocked bookcase with lots of local information. The well-equipped kitchen has a fridge-freezer, gas hob, combi-microwave, toaster, kettle and coffee machine. WiFi available.

The roomy bedroom has a king-sized bed and sliding glass-doors onto a balcony overlooking the gardens and the mountains - a perfect place for morning coffee or a pre-dinner glass of wine. The bathroom has a shower, wash-basin, bidet and washing machine and there is a separate WC. Garden furniture and a BBQ are provided.

Local Activities

This location is perfect for nature-lovers, walkers and cyclists. There is horse riding in Biert; walking on the extensive network of waymarked paths in the Massat valley or in the high mountains close by; cross-country skiing at the Etang de Lers and alpine sking at Guzet (45 mins). The pre-historic caves for which the Ariege is famous are a short drive away and the Tour de France passes close to Massat nearly every July. There are many local markets selling delicious local produce and artisan goods.

Prices range from 380 to 490 € per week (65-85 € per night); 20% deposit on booking. Electricity, gas and firewood included in the price. Sheets and towels provided
