Las Coumeilles stands on the mountainside at 640 m altitude looking south in one of the most beautiful valleys of the Ariege and has outstanding views of the Pyrenees. The property extends for 3 hectares (7 acres) across the mountainside. The house, built in traditional style, has a swimming pool and tennis court, and is located halfway between Foix and Lavelanet. There is also a 4-bedroom gîte sleeping 8 on the property a few minutes walk away from the owners' house. From Las Coumeilles you can see the Chateau de Montsegur and from the gardens you can see the Chateau de Roquefixade which is in the next village. There are many small villages to explore and all around are magnificent views. The valley is one of the sunniest in the Ariege.
Leychert itself is a small village with no shops but facilities nearby are excellent with the nearest large supermarket a 15 minute drive away and small shops in a local village 10 minutes away. Lavelanet is 11 km distant and Foix 12 km. There is a wide selection of restaurants, bars and cafes around at varying prices from the simple pizza to fine dining. Le Sentier Cathar, the famous pathway of the Cathars, winds its way up the mountain behind the house. This pathway starts in Foix and leads to Narbonne, 250 km of beautiful walking trails. Many walks can be taken directly from the house and the views over the valley are magnificent.

Las Coumeilles offers bed and breakfast accommodation comprising two double rooms with en-suite facilities and a family suite.
Moon room: This south-facing room has wonderful views over the garden towards the mountain. There is a double bed, bath and shower, sep. WC. There is a door to the garden and a table and chairs where you can enjoy the view as you sip your wine on a warm summer evening.
Sun Room: This east-facing room has views towards Montsegur and across the garden to the mountains. There is a sleigh bed with two single mattresses. It has an en-suite shower with WC. There is a door to the garden and table and chairs where you can sit and listen to the birds in the twilight or watch the vultures and eagles swooping over the valley.
The family suite: two double rooms with a bathroom in between them.
There is a breakfast room with a wonderful panorama of the mountains. Breakfast may also be taken outside in the garden or by the pool in the summer kitchen..
The swimming pool and tennis court are for the use of visitors to Las Coumeilles. The summer kitchen with its cooking facilities may be used for self-catering by arrangement. These facilities are shared with guests at the gite.
The gardens have several seating areas and there are wonderful views from the pool complex and from the top of our field. We have a fantastic flower meadow with a huge variety of mountain flowers including several varieties of orchids. We also have 4 resident donkeys.
Table d’hote is available by reservation. In the growing season some vegetables will be from our garden. Please enquire.

SEMINARS AND FAMILY GATHERINGS The accommodation combined with the gite is suitable for small study group, seminars or large families out of high season. The two units may be rented together and some catering can be offered. Table d'hôte is available by arrangement. PIANO LESSONS Trish ran a very successful piano school in England and still does a small amount of teaching. Courses for those interested in piano playing or preparation for the diploma of teaching can be arranged. |
