The « white gold » of the Pyrenees is usually snow. Here in Garanou/Luzenac, white gold is also soft—soft as a stone, a white stone : talc.

The talc quarry of Timouns, situated at 1800 m altitude and 15 kms from Luzenac, is the largest in the world. Our hotel « La Pierre Blanche » is named after the softest stone in the world.

 Completely renovated in 2002 the hotel has 15 pleasantly decorated rooms, each equipped with private bathroom and wc, direct phone line and satellite TV. A lounge for relaxing and reading is at your disposal.

For your seminars or other business meetings we offer a pleasant conference room seating 45 persons. It’s equipped with audiovisual equipment (television, VCR, overhead projector, screen and white board.

Our hotel has been selected to receive official teams of the Tour de France (which passes through our region regularly). This experience allows us to to henceforth receive cycling and mountain biking groups, offering demi-pension prices that include breakfast and meals adapted for athletes as well as a secure garage for the bicycles.

Situated in the heart of the Ax valleys, La Pierre Blanche is right at the crossroads of tourist activities in the territory. In winter, all the snow sports can be practiced here : downhill skiing at Ax 3 Domaines (18 kms) at at Ascou-Pailhères (24 kms), cross-country skiing on the premier resort in the Pyrenees, the Plateau de Beille (20 kms) or at the Domaine du Chioula (19 kms). For walks and hikes, there are plenty of waymarked trails at all altitudes and many professional guides to lead you if you would like to learn more about the area.

In summer, you can explore the Cathar landmarks, the Orlu nature reserve, or meet shepherds on the high mountain pastures. Other pastimes include relaxing in the thermal spa at Ax-les-Thermes or tax-free shopping in nearby Andorra. And from mid-May to mid-October you can take a tour of the talc quarry where an immense amphiteatre of white stone is spread before your eyes.
