porte ouverteThe hamlet of Mède (elevation 750m) is indeed like an eagle's nest looking down over the wild valley of Estours situated at the foot of the Mont Valier.

donkeysOur gîte is located in the hamlet, in which 3 families live all year round. Accessible by car along a narrow mountain road, which is plowed in the winter, it's ideally situated between the walking trails (GR10 at the bottom of the valley) and the shops and services in the valley vllages. We are 5 minutes from the canoe-kayak base, 10 minutes from the village of Seix (post office, grocery, bakery, restaurant, pizzeria and events of all types), 15 minutes from Oust (petrol station, riding centre, more shops) and 15 minutes from the ski station of Guzet as well as the thermal springs at Aulus-les-bains. The main market town of Saint Girons is 25 minute drive.

The gîte is a small stone-built house. You reach it by an independent entrance that leads direction into the large living area comprising a kitchen area, dining table, salon with woodburning stove and convertible couch. In the back on the left is a bathroom with WC, sink and shower stall, and to the right is a small bedroom with 2 bunk beds and a mezzanine with a double bed (reached by a wooden staircase).

The first floor is a large mezzanine where there is a second bedroom with a double bed and a space for reading, playing or working.

The gîte is full of light and well heated with the firewood made available to you.

cochonThe best thing about this house when the weather is fine is its southwest facing terrace looking toward the Mont Valier (the highest point in the region). It's crossed by a fountain whose water falls into the washing trough down below. Ideal for children to play in when the weather is hot. The terrace has garden furniture and a barbeque.

It's important to know that this hamlet is clinging to a steep hillside. But don't worry about your children, who will very quickly become as sure-footed as goats and will love whizzing down the hamlet's zip line.

Our little farm is also adapted to the particular conditions of a steep slope. Those who are curious and not afraid to scramble can come meet pigs, the two cows, a few sheep, rabbits, chickens or pidgeons. The neighbors also have pack donkeys and we have cats, dogs and children of our own.

Honey is produced on our property by our bee-keeping neighbors. We grow vegetables, have fresh eggs and make preserves and charcuterie. With all that we can prepare you a meal upon your arrival (15 € per person).
