How to get to the Ariège Pyrenees
Whether you're coming from France, Andorra or Spain, head for Toulouse. Our department is one hour from that city, the capital of the Midi-Pyrenees region.
From Toulouse by car:
To go to Pamiers, Foix, Tarascon or Ax: take the N20 (direction Foix) or (more rapid but with a toll) the A61 in the direction of Narbonne and then the A66 toward Andorra. The A66 joins the N20 at Pamiers.
To get to St Girons and the Couserans: take the A64 (toll road) in the direction of TARBES, then exit 20 to continue on the N117.
For the Lèze-Arize valleys: take the N20 then the D1-D9.
GPS Warning: If your final destination is a small mountain village, don't place complete trust in your automatic navigation system which may well direct you over a mountain pass closed by snow or over small winding roads when a road that goes around the mountain would be faster. If your hosts have given you specific directions for arriving at their place, follow them.
