Ideally placed in the heart of the Cathar country near the medieval town of Mirepoix, the Auberge du Balestié is owned and run by an English family who warmly welcome you to this peaceful corner of Ariège just 35 kms from Carcassonne and 1 hour from Toulouse. In a peaceful, secluded location, 300 metres from the road, the hotel has magnificent views of the Pyrenees and is set in a nature lovers paradise.

All rooms have been recently refurbished and all have ensuite facilities. We have one family room with a double bed and an adjacent room joined by an arch with two single beds. All other rooms are equipped with either a double bed or 2 single beds.

The restaurant overlooks a beautiful lake with a small island which is home to egrets and herons. We have 40 house martins nests an it is a real pleasure to watch the aerial acrobatics of these graceful birds from April – September.

The area is a paradise for cyclists, with fantastic uncrowded roads and superb views of the mountains. Bikes can be stored securely and we offer a kit cleaning service. We can also organise cycle hire (both road bikes and mountain bikes).

In the summer, a freshly baked continental breakfast is served in our breakfast room or on the terrace overlooking the lake. In our restaurant you can enjoy such regional specialities as confit or magret de canard or cassoulet. Other menus might include steak with pepper or Roquefort cheese sauce, salmon with creamy leak sauce, cod stuffed with mushroom paté, or roulade of chicken with asparagus. We can also provide mouthwatering vegetarian dishes by reservation.

In our large dining room, we can cater for groups of up to 60 people. We have the perfect location for birthday parties, wedding receptions, family reunions etc.
