 Situated on the banks of the Arac River in the small village of Castet d’Aleu, the Auberge de l’Arac is a former creamery full of character. Its location in a beautiful mountain valley makes it an ideal base for fishing, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking and much more. With Guzet ski station 25 mins away and cross-country skiing at Etang de Lers (30 mins), the fun doesn’t have to stop, even in winter.

The road that passes in front of the auberge has featured in several Tour de France routes and the quiet mountain roads around it are perfect for exploring on two wheels. The owners are both keen cyclists and can offer help with anything from route advice to bidon filling. Bike storage is also available on site.

However you choose to spend your day, on returning to the auberge you will be greeted with a hearty meal in a relaxed atmosphere before being lulled to sleep by the sound of the river or the hooting of a passing owl.

If sightseeing is more your scene, 20kms away the market town of St. Girons offers a range of shops and restaurants while a visit to historic St. Lizier is like stepping back in time. But for those wishing to indulge in a more sedentary holiday, the sun room and terrace are perfect spots to put your feet up and watch the trout swim past in the river below – or even feed the ducks!
